A retired English and history teacher and librarian from the West Jasper County Public School System in Bay Springs, MS, she was often a class sponsor, produced school plays and chaperoned senior trips. She was active in church, the Retired Teachers' Association and VFW Ladies' Auxillary.

Member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society for Key Women Educators and Phi Kappa Phi Honor Socirty.
Married to Carrel Hilton Dykes for 62 years.
